Our curriculum offers pre-reading, language arts, math, science, social studies, technology,
and social skills.
When children are provided with a strong academic foundation at an early age, they are more likely to excel throughout their education. We develop their pre-reading skills by reading, singing songs, reciting finger plays, and emphasizing phonics. Our comprehensive literacy program focuses on development in phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension through guided, shared, and independent reading sessions. In addition Title 1 instruction and resource programs are provided to meet individual student needs. Mathematical exploration including number skills and problem solving, are also part of the curriculum.
Our program offers hands-on activities and experimentation. Children also learn how to operate a personal computer and use age-appropriate software to reinforce math, language arts, and logic skills. In addition, we integrate art, music, physical education, health and wellness, drama, and creative play into the day. We also offer a quality after-school program.

Our unique approach shows students how to apply their lessons to the real world. Using investigation and exploration, abstract concepts are easier to understand which helps students become better decision-makers and creative thinkers. We provide a science lab, greenhouse, and mobile technology integration which advances each child's hands-on learning experiences.

Ethel Hedgeman Lyle Academy Professional Development Program is an ongoing process that keeps our teachers current in the ever-changing field of education. Its purpose is to enhance the intellectual and leadership abilities of our staff-to sharpen teaching skills and improve learning capabilities of our students.
